Bantry Bay Self Catering

As its name signifies, Bantry Bay lies perched on the rocks overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in one of the most exclusive bays on the Atlantic Seaboard. Crashing waves, magnificent sunsets and protection from the wind make Bantry Bay much sought after and, because of its position, an ideal base from which to explore Cape Town.

Bantry Bay lies just outside the vibey suburb of Sea Point and, although it doesn’t have a beach of its own, you can reach the beaches of Clifton on foot or Saunders Rocks on the border of Bantry Bay and Sea Point has a little tidal pool.

Bantry Bay hugs the slopes of Lion’s Head and the very contemporary apartments that line the Bantry Bay sea front are as close to the ocean as you can get.

Bantry Bay is within easy reach of Table Mountain and the cableway, the V&A Waterfront and the city bowl are only 5 minutes away and the suburb has its own deli.

Bantry Bay is filled with the elite tourists and business people who wish to experience the Cape Town hustle and bustle but not stay in the City Bowl.

During the summer season (September to April), the temperatures rarely peak above 32°C, averaging about 22 – 30°C. The area is cooled by the locally-named “Doctor Wind” which keeps the city free of pollution and fresh year round.

During the winter (May to August), the chilly wind and rain arrive, but the Bantry Bay suburb offers cosy accommodation with fireplaces and secluded balconies. The mercury rarely falls below 10°C in these months.

Five minutes from your Bantry Bay Self Catering accommodation is the popular V&A Waterfront, a working harbour and a shopping emporium.

If shopping in a mall is not your idea of a Cape Town holiday, why not take a trip up the iconic flat topped Table Mountain or party the night away in one of the many Sea Point, Green Point, or City Bowl nightclubs?

The Islands Restaurant

While in Bantry Bay, you are likely to be overcome with an urge to splurge – The Island Restaurant is the perfect place to do this.

Situated at the President Hotel, this picturesque venue is ideal for lunch and dinner, offering all patrons a variety of dishes from their à la carte menu.

If you are in the mood for a hearty breakfast, swing by for their daily breakfast buffet which includes a fabulous selection of pastries, fresh fruits and a range of hot food.

Saunders Rock Beach

Driving along the lengthy coastline, you’ll definitely be overcome with sea-envy.

Take a drive to Saunders Rock Beach for a splash in the bouncy blue waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The beach is situated off the coast of Bantry Bay, between Sea Point and Camps Bay.

An interesting fact about the beautiful sandy beach of Saunders Rock lies in its name – it comes from the natural presence of granite in the rocks on the shore. Being a secluded sandy paradise, you’ll definitely want to spend a few hours here soaking up the sun.

Drive along the coast

Yes – drive through the area. This is one of our favourite pastimes when we travel through Bantry Bay.
